What is the Thermostat ?
The thermostat is a device that, connected to a source of heat or cold, allows the temperature to be regulated automatically; preserving the one that is desired, avoiding rises or falls of the indicated degrees.
What is the Thermostat Used for ?
The main use of the thermostat is to control, regulate, the temperature. The device adjusts according to the temperature it measures and the thermal level (degrees) that is defined by the user.
If a drop in temperature is detected, the device automatically causes it to rise; and vice versa. In this way, a temperate environment is preserved to the user’s preference at any time.
Thermostats are allies of everyday life thanks to the existence of two other coadjuvants when it comes to temperature: air conditioning and heating.

Commonly analog type thermostats are the oldest, and are located on the wall. Another function of this type of thermostats is to control gas boilers, pumps, and valves.
It is a more advanced thermostat than the analog one, and is usually more used for its ease of use and efficiency. The user registers the temperature of their preference and the thermostat automatically adjusts it, turning on or off the heat or cold source to which it is connected.
This type of thermostats has the advantage of being programmable. In addition to providing comfort for everyday life, they allow energy savings in their use. The most important characteristic of programmable thermostats is to be able to adjust to each preference or need, as it offers the possibility of programming at what time to turn on and / or turn off, and at what temperature to operate.
These thermostats, in addition to being programmable, do not require cables, nor do they need to be placed on the wall. Their greatest advantage is that they can be operated from anywhere in the house or office, regulating the temperature more comfortably in any space.
The device is connected to the source of heat – or cold – through a relay that is connected to the boiler. Advances in digital and telecommunications technology have allowed the development of wireless Wi-Fi thermostats.
How Does the Thermostat Work ?
The thermostat operates to regulate the heating and / or cooling system, in order to keep it running only when really necessary, at the user-defined temperature. Its control systems work by closing – or opening – the electrical circuit that responds to temperature.
With proper use of the thermostat, energy consumption can be reduced and waste avoided, while reducing CO2 emissions and other pollutants.
What Does the Thermostat Measure ? Unit of Measurement
The thermostat helps to control the temperature of a certain place according to the temperature parameter that is chosen, using sensors or metal sheets (which depend on the type of thermostat that is used). Its measurements are given in degrees Fahrenheit or Centigrade (Celsius).
